I have always being blessed by Ps John's teachings & sermons, he as helped me to stay focused on Jesus & His Word.I pray that God will continue to use him in a mighty way and that He church may be established in truth. Plse pray for myself & family that God may even use us to bring Glory to His name, pray for my marriage that is being challenge at this time that God will give us a breakthrough to sacrifice for each other.

I have to say I disagree with the above comment regarding God doesnt use certain people. God uses even the wicked for His purposes. Your very life is used to bring glory and honor to God through your odedience and worship. People may be watching you to see what is this God you worship. Your love and passion for God are testifying to the people around you.

Yes, it's true, Jesus chose 12 ordinary men, but he only chose 12--not every ordinary person.

Some of us, unfortunately, have to live with the fact that God has not and does not use us. However, we also live with the hope that maybe someday he will.

While I agree with this article, I have to admit, I have a hard time reconciling Dr. MacArthur's statement here:

"That’s a tall order! Frankly, no one meets such a standard. Humanly speaking, no one “qualifies” when the standard is utter perfection." - which I agree with

With his article here - http://www.sfpulpit.com/2008/08/14/restoring-the-disqualified

in which he argues that not only is it possible for people to attain the status of "above reproach," it is required for leadership.

Excellent! This is the reason I believe that Christians need to pour over the Old Testament. Once the New Testament gets past the Gospels, the Apostles are pretty much Super Men. The Gospels portray them as weak, slow and worldly, once Pentecost is over though, they are Super Christians. Do not misunderstand me, the Apostles are obviously indispensible to our faith and practice. It is easy for me to ride on a spiritual roller coaster if I dwell exclusively on the Book of Acts to Revelation though. The Old Testament saints provide us with such a balanced account of living a Christian life. Whether it is Noah, Abraham, Moses, David or many others, I find my faith strengthened knowing that these men were Godly witnesses and imperfect.

"Twelve Ordinary Men" was one of the most enjoyable books by Dr. Macarthur I've read to date. His insights into the Apostles' strengths and weaknesses - and what Christ did with the "raw material" - were truly encouraging. I particularly liked reading about John, the Apostle of love - how in the early days, his zeal for the truth often outweighed his capacity for compassion. This is something I struggle with, too, especially when seeing what's become of the liberal and so-called "emerging" church's doctrine.
