My brother sent me a letter (by snail mail) with the link to this article. We read the book right before I went back to Patrick Henry College for the fall semester. The book addresses the problem of low expectations for teens, but it seems that--as has already been mentioned--the standard is set too low in nearly all levels in society. Especially for those who claim to be Chrisitans, the Bible sets high standards. When we only live up to low expectations, we are not honoring God with all of our being.
Nice review by the way.

I gave this book to one student as part of a graduation present, and he loved it. He plans on passing it on to his younger brother to so he will not waste his high school years. Cool results, planning on using it later with the rest of the youth ministry!

I finished reading this book tonight. My primary motive for reading it was because I work with the high-schoolers at my church. I have not been a teen for some years now, but I was really attracted to the theme behind this book. I agree with the brothers' observations--that teens generally live up to their low expectations, but we must also admit that they did not get there themselves. The first comment on this post has much truth to it--that the church even places pretty low expectations on teens. Like the post author, I would have liked to see the gospel message a centrality to their motives for fighting these low expectations. They could have even drawn upon biblical characters more than they did. Alas, it was a great effort and their reward will be waiting them in heaven!

All,

This is an excellent book and I just took my student youth group to see the Harris brothers speak. They were excellent and very encouraging! I cannot strongly recommend thsi book enough. If you would like to see these young mean teach the content of the book you can buy a DVD of the Rebelution event from their website. (And no, I get no 'kickbacks' for thsi recommendation)

The same culture that has set the bar too low for our youth is the same culture in which the church has set the bar too low for itself.
