"The battle belongs to the Lord" then and now!

"But let all who take refuge in You be glad...and may You shelter them, that those who love Your name may exult in You. For it is You who blesses the righteous man, O Lord. You surround him with favor as with a shield." (Ps. 5:11,12)

A fellow worshipper of the living God!

God bless you all!

Very good article.Christians should think that they are in a battle field...Reminds the song

"Onward, Christian soldiers, marching as to war,
With the cross of Jesus going on before.
Christ, the royal Master, leads against the foe;
Forward into battle see His banners go!

Onward, Christian soldiers, marching as to war,
With the cross of Jesus going on before".

I am currently a soldier deployed to Iraq, and I have been experiencing hardship as a soldier, from the non-believers. It hurts very much as I cry out for their souls day and night. They don't understand the cross or me so I am rejected by them. However I know that the Lord is a mighty commander, and it is good to know that he is my ultimate chain of authority. Please pray that the Lord would save these men.

Tears upon my cheeks flowed as a river in its banks as I read and re-read the actions of Lt. Winters and his men. Nevertheless, considering what our Lord went through let me share with you my favorite song, yet never sung...

Hold the Fort by P.P. Bliss

Ho, my comrades, see the signal,
Waving in the sky!
Reinforcements now appearing,
Victory is nigh.

"Hold the fort, for I am coming,"
Jesus signals still;
Wave the answer back to heaven,
By thy grace we will."

See the mighty host advancing,
Satan leading on,
Mighty men around us falling,
Courage almost gone!

"Hold the fort, for I am coming,"
Jesus signals still;
Wave the answer back to heaven,
By thy grace we will."

See the glorious banner waving,
Hear the trumpet blow!
In our Leader's name we'll triumph,
Over every foe.

"Hold the fort, for I am coming,"
Jesus signals still;
Wave the answer back to heaven,
By thy grace we will."

Fierce and long the battle rages,
But our help is near,
Onward comes our great Commander,
Cheer, my comrades, cheer.

"Hold the fort, for I am coming,"
Jesus signals still;
Wave the answer back to heaven,
By thy grace we will."

If we don't, who will. Thanks for the article.

Yes.

"...good and faithful SLAVE."

Truly we must see ourselves as Christians s literally slaves to our Lord Jesus Christ. As well as soldiers. For this is our position.

Thank you John for using the proper translation. And for revealing this great truth.

Your article was very uplifting to me. I am a pastor in northern Va. I just came out of a situation where the new pastor we hired [a year later] ended up having a hidden agenda that included church growth, demo[n]graphics, building a church of unbelievers and believers by focusing on the lost and neglecting the redeemed [his own words], a salvation that has no mention of repentance, brokenness or a God who hates sin. As JMac has written and said many times you will know them by their fruit. A false teacher will show himself eventually for what and who he is. He has no way of keeping his flesh in check because the power of God is not in Him. I was the associate pastor and an elder and had been at our church for over 4 years. Our chairman and I started receiving complaints about the new pastor concerning his conduct towards certain people. We finally had to approach him and not only did he villify those who were offended he villified the two of us to where it became an us vs. him. To make a long story short we chose to stay true to God's word and hold him accountable to the Bible's standards of being an elder who is above reproach. I also challenged him with his seeker-sensitive approach and his church growth tactics. Needless to say he had already gained much clout in the church and the chairman and I were forced to resign.
I praise God that He, as my Commander-in-Chief, continued to remind me that in this world I would face trouble and persecution and hardship but to take heart and be of good cheer because He has overcome this world. God is good even when things are bad...especially when things are bad. God bless you immensely for your ministry.

Thank you for this timely article. The roadblocks and obstacles that Satan is erecting in our paths may not be prison or arrest or martyrdom or persecution, but they are all designed to silence those who proclaim the truth and thereby shine the light of God into the darkness. Those who love the darkness can be quite cruel in their obstinacy against the good work we are called to do.

Thanks again for posting this.

"Timothy was facing severe conflict in his ministry at Ephesus, and the relentless opposition from heretics, apostates, and persecutors was weakening him. And just like any Christian who experiences difficulty because of following Christ, he needed to be reminded again of his task — to suffer hardship as a good soldier of Jesus Christ."

Relentless opposition from heretics, apostates, and persecutors. That's what gets me and pains me so much. To endure opposition from those OUTSIDE the Church... that I can understand and endure.

But for Timothy and other faithful Christians throughout history and in every place... to have to endure relentless persecution from those INSIDE the Church is almost too much to bear. "Friendly fire" that's really unfriendly just befuddles me.

Eg., there are some Christians, call them Liberal Protestants or Emergent Movement Christians who support Gay Marriage and who also support the abortion of pre-born babies.

These LibProts and Emergents will relentlessly persecute biblically faithful Christians who uphold God's Word which declares that Same-sex behavior is a sin and that abortion is a sin too.

LibProts and Emergents will fire and shoot at Good Christian soldiers.

Very few of us picture ourselves as a "soldier" for Christ. We often say we are "followers", "disciples" or even "friends"; and these are all great aspects of our relationship. Still, there is nothing quite like that soldier mentality to motivate us. Thanks for the reminder.
