Great Article! I hate to use it, but this article is very "relevant" (I shudder when I wrote that) to us at this time. Your last 2 paragraphs were really thought provoking and encouraging because I just realized that God used Matthew 7:13-14, 21-23 to save me. I can definitely testify to the power and sharpness of God's Word and I'm glad that it is that way.

Preach on brother!

"there’s a painful process involved in regeneration."

Amen.

Good post. And convicting. I talked with a builder supervisor today, who knows we're Christians. He talked about the time he cussed my partner out.
He then proceeded to use foul language, and then apologize, sort of, but not really. And I kept silent.

He cussed again, and said, "There I go again". I said, "You know, that's between you and the Lord." It wasn't much that I said, but it was amazing how just that seemed to put him back on his heels a bit.

I pray that from now on I'll share the gospel in a better, and bolder way.

Thanks for this teaching. It does encourage me also.

Phil,

I have really enjoyed reading this series. It is great encouragement to me to keep preaching the Word of God in a clear way and let it do its work by the power of the Spirit.

The power of God's Word is a truth that permeates Scripture. As is says in Isaiah 55:10-11 - the Word of God always accomplishes the purpose of God who sent it.

Looking forward to your next post.

Blessings,
Steve Lamm

Bringing these words of comparison to open-heart surgery and to circumcision of the heart is very helpful.

The two-edged sword of God's Word will do this.

"We don’t have to be “open” for the Word of God to penetrate."

"Nothing is more penetrating and more effective in reaching sin-hardened hearts than the pure and unadulterated Word of God."

Thank you for this great post!

Phil,

Great series, wonderful article. I'm looking forward to more.

And for the very reasons you gave in this article, I'm a KJV man. Nothing cuts as well. Reading or using anything else is, to me, like shaving with a banana.

God Bless,

Chris

Phil:
This article is tremendous!

Thank you brother for your faithful labor in God's Word here and the meaningful application surrounding this story of Whitefield and his critics.

May these kinds of articles flow from your pen with regularity at TP as well. This is teaching that satisfies the hungry soul and thirsty mind.

I needed this encouragement today...

In His transforming grace,
Steve
