Wow, great article! I pray each night over my two kids (14 and 10), with them listening by my side, that God would call them to faith and repentence in Christ.

About a year ago, we moved out of a "seeker friendly" church environment where they were given that false assurance, and I'm sure they truly didn't understand what being "saved" actually was, as the pastor rarely, if ever, mentioned the word "sin". Being saved meant that school would go better, your grades would go up, you'd think and feel better about yourself, you'd get along with your parents, and oh yeah, you'd go to heaven too.

If Christ doesn't do the drawing and the calling - as put for in His Word, then its all for naught...driven soley by pride and selfish desires. Our kids are learning that now with Scripture, and its by His grace alone that our two kids will inherit the kingdom of God.

Amen.... we who are parents and grandparents have the privilege of demonstrating the true nature of salvation to our kids...the home is such a powerful place to display the life-transforming grace of God.To work out our salvation before our kids with fear and trembling, warts and all!. We need to constantly shun religious pretense and externals and humbly manifest we are sinners saved by grace alone, through faith in Christ alone! Our kids need to be lovingly exposed to and learn how Scripture deals with our and their own falleness!..like everyone they need to recognize their personal need to embrace faith in Christ's saving work!I believe we can be used mightily by God to bring about that awareness and demonstrate the reality of His transforming grace!

From a pastor/teacher who has raised four kids in a "Christian Home," I can fully understand this point of view. We believe our children have been saved because we led them through the "gospel verses." We need to pray that Christ by His love has by His grace alone, brought our children into His Kingdom. And we need to fully teach our children the means hereby Christ saves, and what are the fruits of that salvation.

Very Insightful. We have experienced some of these things with our own children.
