By the way I meant to say that I used to struggle with prayer also, and at times still do. I certainly am not a theologian and I am so grateful that we have a place like this to read and learn about issues so important to us as believers. One thing that makes prayer so special to me is just to know that my Father is listening and has his ear tuned to me(Ps 34:15-18). What a wonderful thing to have a set place and time to meet with the Lord! As one of my favorite teachers says, "Prayer is like breathing"

I am truly convinced that our prayers make a difference. I do not understand how this is so in light of God's total control of all events. This much I do understand: God does not command his people to pray and then those prayers mean absolutely nothing in the scheme of things.
Prayer matters to our great God--and it is of no small consequence if we do not pray!
We do not change God or his ultimate plan, but prayer changes us. As we learn to pray the word of God over every situation in our lives and world--I believe that God weaves those prayers (based on his word and will) into his awesome works that implement his eternal plan.

I think that point #1 is so important for believers these days. It is hard for all of us, I think, to deal with the question "If God Is Sovereign, Why Pray?" in the same way that we ask "Why evangelize if God has already predestined the elect?".

Simply answering "...because God commands it" didn't really do it for me until I started to understand better the sovereignty and complete supremacy of God.

Thanks for this series on prayer. I know that my prayer life could always use more encouragement.

Amen. God commands us. And Jesus is our most awesome example to pray.

I wish I could pray more. I pray more, a lot more, then when I was unsaved. But I would like to be able to pray much more than I do.
