Not to mention there have been so many brilliant people that have used their logic to come up w/ horrendous doctrines.

I don't think Erasmus, Pelagius, and Arius were just some no-thinking, poor reasoning fools! But look what they came up with...

Just goes to show we def. need the Spirit as our guide and for God to open our eyes.

Yes, and we cannot forget that Luther's reason also lead him to error. Which proves, even though Luther was the father of protestantism and a great church leader, that all men are liars and God alone in true. In part it is do to the fact that the "reason" and "logic" of Scripture derives from a different system, as John MacArthur makes clear,"Authentic spiritual discernment must begin with Scripture-revealed truth." As did Luther. But, we often impose our presuppositions (or our emotional-attached pet opinions) upon Scripture and derive our doctrines by our own logic and reason, instead of avoiding error "when good reason and sound logic are kept subject to the authority of Scripture." So, we believe in Scripture alone as the final authority for all things concerning God and the creation, and place no trust in the conclusion of man, whether Luther, or MacArthur. That being, Scripture is revelational and being so, reveals to us truths that cannot be derived from the system of human reason or logic. Its propositions are different. Its beginning point is the mind of God and his decrees and not the experiential paradigm of man.
