Cessationism Update
March 9th, 2007
(By Nathan Busenitz)
After receiving some email asking me to put up my notes immediately (which are not quite ready for posting), I am posting a link to my notes from last year’s conference. These notes do not address the common objections listed below. They do, however, provide a basic introduction to the topic of charismatic gifts (from a cessationist perspective).
It’s kind of a lot, but I hope it is helpful to those interested (even if it is a year old).
Nathan,
Thanks! I look forward to the rest of the posts as well.
Thanks Nathan. A long read but certainly worth it. As a member of Grace Community I certainly count you a blessing to our church. Your giftedness was certainly appreciated by me during the Shepherd’s Conference since I was unable to be one of the Servant Staff as I have in the past years. Being able to read the blog with the links took away some of that disappointment for me. Again thanks!
Hey Nate,
I was at your Cessationism seminar at the Conference this year and thoroughly enjoyed it. I can’t wait for the notes. Thanks for all of the diligent preparation. You might remember me; I was the guy who asked you about your work on tongues and then asked if you had any resources on the nature of language before the Tower of Babel. Anyway, it doesn’t really make a difference if you remember me or not.

My question pertains to John Piper’s most recent post on his “Taste and See” articles, the one for 3/19. He’s claimed that he heard God speak. (I actually came across the article on Phil Johnson’s blog page. There was a link to it.) Given everything you’ve talked about, how do you respond to his claim?
Thanks man,
MIKE
