Man that's just cruel... leave me hanging on the edge of my seat like that. Here I am, biting my nails waiting for the exposition, and, "that will be the topic of our next post." I guess I can wait...

Good post though, your reasoning is clear and I couldn't agree more.

Good discussion. Ephesians 4:11-16 expresses this same qualitative meaning (NASB translates it "mature man"). Nate, I wonder if you can dialogue with the thoughts about these three (prophecy, knowledge, tongues) as representing groups of giftings and their effects. For example, that prophecy and knowledge represent the revelatory categories of the spiritual gifts and effects. Tongues represents the confirmatory groups. And therefore with their being done away and ceased, the whole groups would follow suit. That is, if tongues ceases, so do the interpretation of tongues, the gift of faith, miracles, healings. I get my reasoning from the gramatical structure of 12:8-10 (alloi, and heteroi).

Nathan,

Thanks so much for doing these posts. I am also waiting to read your take on the meaning of the PERFECT. Then I may have a few questions about the entire issue.
