Above is an incomplete list of things we should "make every effort" to do. It's a good list of New Year's resolutions, seems to me.

5 For this very reason, make every effort to add to your faith goodness; and to goodness, knowledge; 6 and to knowledge, self-control; and to self-control, perseverance; and to perseverance, godliness; 7 and to godliness, mutual affection; and to mutual affection, love. 8 For if you possess these qualities in increasing measure, they will keep you from being ineffective and unproductive in your knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ. 9 But if any of you do not have them, you are nearsighted and blind, and you have forgotten that you have been cleansed from your past sins.

10 Therefore, my brothers and sisters, make every effort to confirm your calling and election.

19Let us therefore make every effort to do what leads to peace and to mutual edification.

Make every effort to live in peace with all men and to be holy; without holiness no one will see the Lord.

There remains, then, a Sabbath-rest for the people of God; 10 for anyone who enters God's rest also rests from his own work, just as God did from his. 11 Let us, therefore, make every effort to enter that rest, so that no one will fall by following their example of disobedience.

2Be completely humble and gentle; be patient, bearing with one another in love. 3Make every effort to keep the unity of the Spirit through the bond of peace.

[24] "Make every effort to enter through the narrow door, because many, I tell you, will try to enter and will not be able to.
