Larry King Live Tonight

Dear Ministry Friends,

John MacArthur is scheduled to be on the Larry King Live show this evening, October 18, 2006.

Larry King intends to interview four panelists, including John, to discuss the exposure of Mark Foley and the ramifications of that for the Republican Party.  The L. A. Times article below is what will be discussed:

“Gay Purge in the GOP?” From LA Times today – “In recent years, the Republican Party aimed to broaden its appeal with a “big-tent” strategy of reaching out to voters who might typically lean Democratic. But now a debate is growing within the GOP about whether the tent has become too big — by including gays whose political views may conflict with the goals of the party’s powerful evangelical conservatives.”

Other panelists include:

- Andrew Sullivan, author, The Conservative Soul (a pro-conservative who opposes fundamentalist Christians)

- Patrick Sammon, Executive Vice President, The Log Cabin Republican (a pro-homosexual, pro-Republican)

From what we have been told, John MacArthur will be in the Los Angeles studio with Mr. King.  The others will be hosted by satellite.

Please check your local listings for the broadcast in your area.  The show will be brought live from Los Angeles at 6:00 p.m.

Thanks for the heads up! I’ve always wanted to see John MacArthur live. I’m accustomed to reading the transcripts off the CNN website.

This seems like a highly hypocritical thing to do, given the 2-of-3-parts article, Christians and Politics that you have posted over the past two days.

    Debi,

    Thanks for your comment.

If you watch the show tonight, you will find that what Pastor John says on the set will be 100% consistent with what he’s being saying in these recent articles.

I hope you have the opportunity to tune in.

    Thanks,
    NB

I don’t have cable so I won’t be tuning in. But there is no context where I can see that his appearing on that show to discuss that topic is consistent with his article.

I’m so amazed at Dr. MacArthur’s patience and humility on those shows. I get so frustrated just watching and yell at the screen “GET THEM!” but praise the Lord Dr. MacArthur is a man of God and has much more discernment than I do :P

    Debi,

Perhaps we can discuss it tomorrow after the show. That way we can look at the transcript and everyone can think through it together.

I talked to Pastor John today, at some length, about what he plans to say on the show tonight. While I appreciate your concern, I can assure you that what he plans to say on the show and what he has been saying in these articles is perfectly consistent.

    Thanks again for your comments.

If these are all the panelists, you have a show that will give a very unbalanced view. With the liberal L.A. Times article as a starting point, on the all-liberal-all-the-time CNN, you are going to get views from liberal Larry King, liberal/libertarian/gay Andrew Sullivan, all-I-care-about-is-turning-the-GOP-pro-gay Sammon, and John MacArthur who doesn’t think Christians should be in the political arena moralizing everyone anyway. They will be out-of-their-minds happy if MacArthur shares his Crusades lesson from history theory with them.

Unfortunately, we don’t get CNN on our sat feed here in Ontario (we opted for FOX news instead). I do look forward to the transcripts however, and knowing Pastor John MacArthur’s character I have no doubt his statements will remain consistant with what’s been posted here.

Argh. One of the very few times I wish I got CNN.

  10. […] John MacArthur was scheduled to appear on Larry King Live tonight(link).  I didn’t get a chance to see it but I did look up some of his past appearances on YouTube.  If you would like to view his past appearances click here. […]

    Read the transcript.
Sheldon and MacArthur both shared the gospel. The difference was only in their political views. MacArthur is being dishonest when he pretends he is not sharing a political view on that show. He shares Andrew Sullivan’s political views. Sheldon was great. I wish people would acknowledge that he is not an enemy of the gospel. He did a better job sharing the gospel than MacArthur did, at least on the show.MacArthur sounds like a sin relativist. Weird. May I point out that there is no Republican Adulterer’s poltical group. No Tax Cheating Republican’s poltiical group. Some sinners still know they shouldn’t be “out and proud” of their sin. There is a difference. One thing only Sheldon seemed willing to acknowledge. VICTIMS! It isn’t just about personal sin in the Foley case. It is also about children as victims.I love MacArthur’s books on the Lordship Salvation issue. I cringe every time he starts to talk politics. He might as well let Andrew Sullivan represent his poltiical views on the Larry King Live Show. He added nothing.

    Debi,

Those are some strong words critiquing a man of God. (”MacArthur is being dishonest when he pretends he is not sharing a political view on that show”; “MacArthur sounds like a sin relativist”; “I cringe…”) It seems a little strange to me that you can use such strong words and peer into Pastor John’s heart that way. You may not like what he has to say, but honestly are you so sure of what you said? So, from your comments Pastor John sounds like a dishonest person, then why would you appreciate his writings? (By the way, may I mention that I think Dr. John MacArthur is one of the best bible teachers of our time in the intrest of full disclosure)

Dr. Albert Mohler had a fantastic radio program on Thursday 10/19/06 that would be a good one to listen to. Go to www.albertmohler.com and look at the MP3 section.

Many blessings to you Debi, just an observation from a brother.

    Debi,

You said, “MacArthur is being dishonest when he pretends he is not sharing a political view on that show.” I don’t see anything dishonest in his explanation. He said, “We’re talking about party politics, and you can pick your party in America. You pay your taxes and you’re an American citizen.” In other words, ‘if you pay your taxes and are an American citizen, you have every right to pick your own political party based upon your own convictions.’ I don’t see anything dishonest here. Then, if you look at the CONTEXT of Dr. Mac’s point, he was explaining the question of whether or not to exclude anyone in a particular political party based upon a moral standard that everyone has broken - that moral standard is God’s law - as he indicated. Again, I don’t see any dishonesty here.

You said, “He shares Andrew Sullivan’s political views.” Again, Dr. Mac was very clear and honest when he said, “The message of Jesus is to go unto under all the world to make disciples, not make Republicans.” He also said, “And I think what happens in the Republican party or the Democratic party or the United States Congress, the United States government is really irrelevant to the advancement of the Kingdom of God.” I think you must have missed Dr. Mac’s point, which is clearly stated - Political views are irrelevant in the advancement of the Kingdom of God. The only thing Dr. Mac and Andrew Sullivan may have in common, is that, maybe they are both registered republicans??? What’s your point? I still don’t see any dishonesty. I guarantee you that the reason that Dr. Mac chose his political party is entirely different than why Andrew Sullivan chose his. Newsflash: Not all Republicans or Democrats agree with each other.

You said,”I cringe every time he starts to talk politics.” Ya, you really did miss the point. Dr. Mac would not go on the show to talk politics. He uses these opportunities to share Christ with a potentially huge audience. This is very obvious when Dr. Mac said, “if you are a homosexual, Jesus Christ can forgive that sin just like he forgave all my sins, and he can forgive you and give you eternal life in heaven through his death and resurrection. And that’s the message of the Gospel.” Again, I still don’t see any dishonesty. Maybe you could qualify your statements in the future because otherwise, as you stated very clearly, “(You) added nothing”.
