Proper tools of studying the bible are always important. I highly recommend those suggested by John MacArthur. As any student of literature in general knows, that to understand the literary piece you are reading, you must apply those elements too.

Yes, the bible was meant to be understood. Contrary to those who do not think so.

Soli Deo Gloria

I like to read and study the Bible what I call in an expository style. I read short passages (or long if needed based on the verses I am studying) and will spend days or even weeks on these expository passages. I will utilize any thing I can read to help me study the passages I am reading to help me learn from them and also to apply them. I use to read my Bible through every year but over time found that I was not learning much and really only doing it to say that I was reading my Bible. Now I actually enjoy opening my Bible and studying the passages I am in since I don't feel overwhelmed by how much I have to read before I go to work or sleep.

I LOVE Bible study! It is invigorating to experience the illumination of the Holy Spirit as we submit ourselves to the Word and "practice what we preach"! I was blessed to have excellent teachers when I was saved, and try to pass it on at every opportunity.

Thanks for this post!
