The Weekend Roundup
September 9th, 2006
(By Nathan Busenitz)
Thanks to all of you who visited our new home during its opening week. The response so far has been great, so thanks for the feedback and interaction. Our series on “naturalism and the theory of evolution” will continue on Monday.
BLOGSPOTTING
Thanks to Tim Challies for the shout out on Wednesday’s A La Carte.
A Puritan at Heart gives us some “reciprocal affection,” and even mentions us at sister-site Crazy Calvinist.
Sean Higgins asserts that Pulpit is “well worth the time.”
NeoFundamentalist lists us in his ongoing discussion regarding separation.
Two Tack’s Thoughts really likes one of our recent articles. So does Jason Worthen and Kevin Pierpont.
Bread and Circuses gives us a “Top Shelf Spot.”
Bret Capranica mentions our move to the new site. As does SixSteps, Tim Jack, and James Kubecki.
And Frank Martens now links here. So does Mark Laroi, the Irish Calvinist, Thabiti Anyabwile, and Tim A. Blankenship.
But our favorite link this week comes from Paul Sheldon who describes our new look this way: “It’s not quite a blog not quite an e-zine, but whatever it is it’s all new and it’s available to the general public for the first time ever. Oh, and in case you were wondering the content is top notch.”
Paul’s comment in particular serves as an excellent transition into our…
QUESTIONS OF THE WEEK
Here are a couple questions we’ve been asked this week.
1. Is this a magazine, a blog, or just a case of online identity crisis?
That’s a fair question. We call ourselves Pulpit Magazine, and yet everything about our site looks like and feels a blog.
Well, believe it or not, the reason for this is purposeful. Because Pulpit started in 2003 as a true e-zine (published once every two months), we wanted to carry that identity over to the new site (which is admittedly a weblog). In doing this, our goal is to maintain the quality of a magazine-level publication, while at the same time facilitating the interactivity and daily freshness of a blog.
So we’re hoping for the best of both worlds here… professional content within a less formal structure.
2. What’s going to happen to the old Pulpit Live?
We are still in the process of bringing the archived articles from Pulpit Live over to the new site. But once that is finished, the domain http://www.pulpitlive.com/ will roll over to the new domain http://www.sfpulpit.com/. When complete, this site will simply replace the old one.
Also, for those who were wondering, the URL http://www.pulpitmagazine.com/ also rolls over to the new site.
I just discovered Pulpit this week, but I can assure you that it will be one of my regular reads. Thank you so much for making it available.
Nate. I am liking this site. Keep up the good posts!
Thanks for the mention (Two Tack’s Thoughts), I’m honored – I look forward to more great articles and keeping the conversation going!
You should be advertizing the fact that the “new Pulpit Live” features a resident atheist in the comment threads to test how well you’re reading the posts.
Cool. Thanks
Now here’s a question, and I think Phil said this already but I forget. Most of the posts on here from MacArthur are from excerpts of sermons, books or notes correct?
To whom it may concern:
Thanks for the plug! This blog is one that we can wholeheartedly refer folks to without reservation. Keep up the great work.
Josh
Thank you for the blogspot! We love the new design–it is so easy to navigate and keep things straight. We liked the old version but the new one has it beat. We are thankful for the ministry that the LORD has given you here at Pulpit Magazine.
